While its season had more than its fair share of ups and downs, the Montezuma-Cortez High School girls’ soccer team certainly ended on a high note.

Playing their final game of the season at home against Telluride on April 30, the Lady Panthers trailed 1-0 at halftime before scoring three times in the second half and walking away with a 3-0 victory.

Keying the M-CHS victory was the play of Nichole Kibel, who scored the team’s first goal of the game two minutes into the second half after Rylee Lindsley sent a perfect crossing pass from the left wing into the right box.

Upon receiving the pass, Kibel quickly collected her thoughts before drilling a hard shot past the outstretched arms of Telluride’s goalkeeper.

Kibel struck again approximately 10 minutes later when she raced into Telluride’s box and booted a loose ball into the back of the net. The goal marked Kibel’s fourth during the season’s final three games.

After one final goal, M-CHS walked away with a 3-1 victory at the final game on Johnson Memorial Field. The Lady Panthers finished the season with a 5-10-0 record.
