Local authors nominated for award

Three authors from Southwest Colorado are finalists for the 2015 Colorado Book Awards.

This year’s local nominees are: Fort Lewis College professor Andrew Gulliford, “Outdoors in the Southwest” (University of Oklahoma Press); Durango restaurateur Katrina Blair, “The Wild Wisdom of Weeds: 13 Essential Plants for Human Survival” (Chelsea Green Publishing); and Cortez author Chuck Greaves, “The Last Heir” (St. Martin’s Minotaur.)

Winners will be announced at the Colorado Book Awards ceremony on Sunday, June 21, at the Doerr-Hosier Center at Aspen Meadows Resort in Aspen.

The authors will read from their nominated works at the following venues:

Monday, June 15: Wilkinson Public Library, 100 W. Pacific Ave., Telluride, CO., 970-728-4519

Tuesday, June 16: Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., Ignacio, CO., 970-563-9287

Thursday, June 18: Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St, Cortez, CO., 970-565-8117

Each event will begin at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Copies of the authors’ books will be available for purchase and signature.

The Colorado Book Awards have been presented annually since 1991 to Colorado authors, editors, illustrators and photographers who exemplify the best in their respective categories during a given year. The awards are given by the Colorado Center for the Book, a program of the Colorado Humanities.
