Cierra Walters, Stan Folsom and Amanda Jones are ready to help water enthusiasts with boat rentals in Dolores at Doc’s Outdoor Sports and Recreation.
Doc’s offers rentals for ski boats, pontoon boats, fishing crafts, kayaks and more.

Stan Folsom wants more people to enjoy McPhee Reservoir, the second-largest body of water in Colorado.

To fulfill this dream, he recently opened Docs Outdoor Sports and Recreation, a boat and gear rental shop on 11th St. in Dolores. It’s next door to the Bug Off car wash.

Docs offers rentals for ski boats, large-capacity pontoon boats, and fishing crafts, plus water skis, paddle boards, wake boards, kayaks, inner-tubes, lifejackets, fishing gear, boat storage service, and more.

“The lake has a lot of potential. People still ask where McPhee is, and I want to help get the word out,” Folsom said. “This business has been my life ambition.”

Folsom is a longtime local resident who grew up in Durango and Rico, where he currently owns the Rico Motel.

He owned and operated the marina at Vallecito Reservoir for six seasons and is submitting a bid to the forest service to operate a marina at the McPhee boat ramp.

“I’m hopeful it will come my way, and I have a 40-slip marina ready to install,” Folsom said.

His new shop also sells gear, including paddle boards, life jackets, fishing gear, boat props, batteries, pumps, and he can offers some light mechanical and detailing services.

Folsom is planning to offer guided fishing tours, water skiing instruction, and boater safety classes. He plans to hire five employees.

“Stop on by for a meet and greet and check out what we can offer for a fun day at the lake,” he said. “I’m excited to be a part of this friendly community.”

Docs is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days per week. They are located at 100 S. 11th Street in Dolores. Stop by for their Grand Opening this weekend, or give them a call at 882-2294. Click on this link to go to their website: http://bit.ly/1FC9OVj
