Centennial Flag Arrives at 4:00 p.m. Ceremonies Today

Dolores will receive the national honor of designation as a Centennial-Bicentennial community Friday, June 20.

Presentation of the American Revolution Bicentennial flag will be made at 4 p.m. at the city park in front of the town hall. Joe Albi, Region VIII director of American Revolution Bicentennial Administration, and G. D. Barrante, executive director of the Colorado Centennial Bicentennial Commission, will present a framed certificate and the ARBA flag to Mayor V. T. Boyd and to Mrs. Cecile B. Taylor, chairperson of the local committee.

Voters Decide on School Bond Election Tuesday, June 24

Qualified voters of the Dolores School District Re-4A are being asked to approve a proposed building program which will mean the continuation of the vo-ag and industrial arts programs in the Dolores High School at a special election Tuesday, June 24. Bonds to be voted on are in the amount of $380,000.

Voting will take place in the art room of the Old Elementary School in Dolores from 7 a.m to 7 p.m.

Coal Lease Lands Withdrawn from Land Commission Auction

Proposed coal leases on lands in the Haycamp area of Montezuma County were withdrawn from an auction of leases on public lands held in Denver on June 18 by the State Board of Land Commissioners. The withdrawal action was taken, according to Land Commissioner Tommy Neal, because of concern expressed by the people of Montezuma County.

Two Arrested After Burglary

Two male subjects have been apprehended for investigation of burglary, theft of over $100, and auto theft following a burglary and theft of the Sportsman Center Monday night. Approximately $2000 worth of merchandise was taken.

Clyde and Yvonne Rule, owners of the Sportsman Center, reported to the Sheriff's Office Tues. morning that a burglary and robbery had occurred at the Sportsman Center sometimes between 7 p.m and 6:50 a.m Monday night. The auto had been taken from Cortez.

Hospital Issue Goes to Vote July 1

Southwest Memorial Hospital officials have scheduled a meeting in Dolores at the Community Room of the Dolores State Bank Building at 8 p.m., Thursday June 26 to discuss the upcoming July 1 bond election to decide whether or not to build a new hospital facility for the area.

Marshal Solved Recent Breakins

Town Marshal Charlie Aragon has listed a number of robbery solvings and apprehensions of individuals involved in a number of recent breakins. Two juveniles who broke into the doctor's offices and also the Dolores Liquor store recently have admitted the thefts of beer, cigarettes and a quantity of cash from the store. The District Attorney's office has charge of the case.

Accident Report

The Haycamp Mesa Road was the scene of an accident involving Dr. Clifford E. Parmley, 55, of Cortez. He was driving a 1974 Volkswagen Convertible with his wife Evelyn as a passenger. The accident occurred June 13 at 7:00 p.m when his vehicle and a 1967 Dodge cattle truck driven by Reece Malles, 36, or Cortez, collided nearly head-on on a sharp curve causing damage to the left front side of both vehicles. The ruck belonging to the Steerman Malles Ranch, received $400 estimated damage. The Parmley vehicle was damaged $700. Both Dr. Parmley and his wife received a cut lip. Seat belts were not in use in either vehicle. The accident was investigated by Joe Ynostroza of the State Patrol.

Bridal Shower

Miss Kathie Hoffman was guest of honor at a bridal shower Monday evening. She received many nice and useful gifts. Hostesses for the event were Mary LaFrance, Loava Goodall, Vaughna McClain, and Elizabeth Boyd. It was held in the Methodist Fellowship Hall. Entertainment was provided by Laurie Ryan and Maxine Bartholomew who each gave readings, and by Shawna Ryan and Beth Steel who sang two numbers.
