A. A. Weiland, of the Weiland Engineering Co., of Pueblo, was here Tuesday night, met with the town board and told that body how the town of Dolores may secure a new water system, financed by PWA funds.
The town board passed a motion authorizing the town clerk and attorney to make the necessary steps to recure the government backing and Mr. Weiland will send an engineer here to get the necessary date to send with the application.
McPhee Mill to Start Work in Ten Days
The New Mexico Lumber Mfg. Co. plant at McPhee will resume operations in about a week or ten days the Star was informed yesterday. Trucks will start bringing in logs Monday it is said. Only local men, former employees of the company will be given employment. The mill has been given a general overhauling and will be in first class shape for a long season's run. Charles Artz is at McPhee and has full charge of the plant.
Baxstrom to Build Dance Pavilion, Camp Cottages
Frank Baxstrom has started operations to complete a dance pavilion on the ground of the old tennis court near Fourth street bridge. The building is to be 40 x 80 feet and will be completed probably by the 4th, of July. In addition Mr. Baxstrom expects to build a number of camp cottages on the ground he has secured, down by the river. The camp cottages will be built as fast as he is able to build them. The location is excellent and in time will be a valuable addition to Dolores.
McCormicks Take Over Montezuma Motor Garage
The McCormicks - W.A. McCormick and Paul - this week acquired possession of the former Montezuma Motor Co. garage and took possession of the same Tuesday morning. The business has been operated for the past several years by James Porter who is retiring from the business.
The building and equipment is owned by Harry Kauffman and Oscar Pritchett who formerly operated the Montezuma Motor Co. Recently the place has been known as the Dolores Motor Co., and the Porter Chevrolet Co.
$3,300,000 Program Asked for Basin Water Storage
A three-million-three-hundred-thousand-dollar water development program for San Juan basin is to be requested of the powers in Washington, according to a recent report from Denver.
The state planning commission, of which J. A. Clay, of Durango, is member discussed the plans for improvement and building of additional irrigation water storage facilities on basin streams last week.
CCC Team Wins Game
The Beaver camp CCC baseball team won an easy victory Sunday over a team composed of Dolores, McPhee and Dove Creek players. The score was 17 to 8. C. W. Webb, Vernon Miller and the two Periman brothers played on the losing nine. The game was interesting and played on the site of the old Beaver Logging camp, near the CCC camp. That Beaver camp ball team gets plenty of practice and have good material, and will prove themselves a match for any of the teams in the basin.
Road Program in Doubt, Says Vail
The outlook for an extensive highway building program being carried out in Colorado and particularly in western Colorado is not the least bit encouraging, according to State Highway Engineer Charles D. Vail.
Inability of Colorado to match federal funds on a 56-44 basis; the requirement that a man be given a year employment for each $1400 expended, and the enormous flood damage to highways in eastern Colorado are given as the main reasons why all the roads will not be completed for some time to come, and the western section of Colorado will probably get it mostly in the neck.
Eyes of Mining World Are Now Focused on Colorado
NEW YORK, June 17. Had "Bagby Doe" Tabor lived but a little longer and she could have seen another of her famed "wishes" come true in the recent revival of the old mining districts in Colorado. So much interest has centered in the renewed activity in districts such as San Juan, Cripple Creek, Leadville, Clear Creek, Gilpin and Boulder Counties, that a special issue of Engineering & Mining Journal international mining authority, will be devoted to the state of Colorado alone in August.
Boy Catches Fish
Harry, the 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rash is undoubtedly the champion fisherman of this neighborhood for his years. Wednesday he landed a 15-inch trout at the river near his home with a piece of twine string. The boy is justly proud of his fish and the father is said to be a little bit chesty about his son.

W. J. Hampton made a trip in from Dove Creek, to take Mr. and Mrs. Hampton to their home.
Billy and Jerry Wedell are sick with the mumps.
Mr. and Mrs. Alva Edwards entertained a few young folks at a party Friday night.
The afternoon bridge club were entertained at the Eva Hart home Thursday. Mrs. Frank Smith received prize for high score, Mrs. Iva Ferguson galloping and Mrs. Lula Fitzgerald deuce prize.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scott, Mr. and Mrs. George Young, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Roelfs, Mr. and Mrs. George Wedell and Herbert Young ate a picnic lunch on the lawn of the Jim Porter home in Dolores.
Charlie Artz arrived here Sunday evening from Denver. Mrs. Artz is the superintendent of the work at Mcphee.
Miss Lavern Conditt and Ada Brittean of Cortez visited at the Marion Smith home Saturday.
