Cortez Sanitation District Manager Tim Krebs died Friday, May 20 at the age of 46.

He was born on July 25, 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida, according to his obituary. Krebs had served as district manager for the sanitation district for about 13 years, said sanitation district superintendent Phil Starks.

“He raised the bar higher for achieving more with the district,” Starks said.

The Sanitation District Board met in a special meeting Thursday in which board members decided Starks will serve as interim manager, he said. The board’s next regular meeting is June 13, and members will discuss a more permanent solution for the position at that meeting, Starks said.

For the last few years, as Krebs served as manager and Starks served as superintendent, the district achieved many things, Starks said. They were able to work together and come up with good solutions, he said. They replaced many aging sewer lines and made the district better than it was when they started, Starks said.

Krebs secured grant funding from the Department of Local Affairs for the Paradise Village sewer project, Starks said. Krebs also was helpful in the district’s effort to replace sewer lines along U.S. Highway 491, Starks added.

Krebs worked his way up through the ranks in the Cortez Sanitation District, previously serving as superintendent and then manager Starks said.

“Tim had a passion for wastewater,” Starks said. “He chose the career early on in his life, and he loved everything about it.”

A memorial service for Krebs will take place on June 1 at 3 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. For more information, visit www.ertelfuneralhome.com.
