The Southwest Colorado Youth Baseball team, composed of 11- and 12-year-old players from Cortez, Dolores, Lewis and Dove Creek, is headed to Durango this weekend to compete in the Majors division of the Colorado Little League State Tournament.

The Majors won the District 4 title last week by defeating Durango twice in a three-game series. They will play the District 2 champion, which will be determined this week in the final between North Boulder and Sherrelwood.

The Majors’ opening game in the state tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 18 at 1 p.m. at Folsom Park in Durango.

“It’s going to be a tough weekend for the kids,” said Majors coach Evan Frost. “You’ve got basically the four top teams in Colorado coming together to battle for one title.”

“We just tell the kids to focus on doing what they do,” he said. “If we can do all the little things together, then all the big things will fall into place.”
