Firemen Win Second Overall at Gallup Competition
At the Tri-State Convention in Gallup July 25 and 26 the Dolores Fire Department won second place in overall competition. They took first place in the main event, first place in the surprise event, and third place in the one man event. Team members were Val Truelsen, Larry Johnson, Dewayne Findley, Monte Johnson, Don Garretson, and Lawrence Wilderson.
Fair opens Thursday
The 1975 Montezuma County Fair opens on next Thursday, August 7 and continues through Sunday, August 10 with hundreds of exhibits of all kinds, both in open class and 4-H competition expected to be on display.
$800,000 for Highway 184
Governor Lamm's signature has made the 1975-76 Division of Highways budget official and it includes $800,000 for the Dolores-Mancos Highway 184.
Highlights of the budget just signed include a concentrated effort toward completion of Interstate 70 between Denver and the Utah state line.
Nominated for Safe Driver of the Year Award
Melvin D. Patscheck, Box 314, Dolores has been nominated for the safe driver of the year award, sponsored by the Denver Post, Colorado State Patrol and The United Bank of Denver.
The program is designed to focus public attention on the defensive and safe driving habits of motorists throughout the state. Each nominee is given a special "congratulation" card in recognition of his exceptionally careful driving and continuous alertness to driving conditions.
New Doctor
Dr. Gerald Grabiel recently joined the Dolores Medical Associated and is now in the Dolores office. Dr. Grabiel and his wife Sue are making their home two miles east of Dolores in the home purchased from the Gene Gustons. They have two children, Peter, two, and Stefan, 8 weeks. Dr. Grabiel received his degree at the University of Colorado and served as intern at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. He also served as director of the Indian Health Hospital in White River, Ariz. before coming here.
Park Benches Torn Up
Marshal Charlie Aragon this week stated that the park benches will be removed and stored following an incident recently in which a lady called and reported that she had observed some individuals tearing up a bench. The Marshal said they would not prosecute since the lady would not testify. This is not the first time it has happened according to Marshal Aragon.
Firemen Plan Fun Day for Area People
On August 16, the Dolores Fire Department plans to hold a fun day to raise money for equipment. There will be kids' games, waterfights, bingo, horseshoe contests, dime throws, a fishing contest, an aerial show, a concession stand, followed that evening by a Bar-B-Q and a street dance.
Engagement Announcement
Mrs. Tomacita Muniz of Dolores has announced the engagement of her daughter Rose Leavell to Walt Ancell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ancell of Cortez. Ms. Leavell is a graduate of Dolores High School and is presently employed by the Mancos Medical Clinic. An August 30 wedding has been planned at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Dolores.
