Dear Editor,
The Dolores Public Library just finished six fun-filled weeks of the Summer Reading Program, "Every Hero Has a Story." The reading logs will continue through Aug. 8, but I would like to thank the people who have made our programs go smoothly.
K9 Search and Rescue with Chuck Melvin, Amy Melvin, Vicki Shafer, Eddie Malloy and Quiddity, spent one afternoon sharing how they use their heroism to search and rescue those who are lost in the woods. Sheriff Deputies, David Van Bibber and Trish Strawn, other local heroes who help keep the community safe, talked with the kids and brought in fingerprint cards. Cowboys, Zane Yates, Jasper Brietenbach, and Jake Kruzan did a wonderful job of demonstrating how to use a lasso. Julia Whelihan and two friends came in behalf of Easton LaChappelle, who is a hero providing people with only one arm an affordable robotic arm. Teen helpers Kaleena Ramsey, Faith Pejsa, Camden Malloy, Gabe Speece, McKinzie Persell, and David Enoah did a super job of helping the children with crafts each week. Kristin Pejsa did an awesome job, as usual, providing snacks to follow our hero theme. Monica Michel, Leticia Riojas, Kathy Carpenter, Breezy Beckler, Bev Speece, and Jen Gaddis all gave much needed help with the programs. I couldn't have done it without their gracious help. Thank you to everyone who saved items for our scavenger hunt, especially the Ponderosa Restaurant which donated at least 70 oatmeal boxes. Also, thank you to the Post Office personnel for allowing us to use their overflow parking lot.
