Mancos boys and girls teams sweep Dove Creek

The Mancos Blue Jays swept the Dove Creek Bulldogs on Tuesday in Mancos.

In the opener, the Lady Jays (4-11, 2-8 San Juan Basin League) got 18 points from senior Brittney Peacock to pull away from the visiting Lady Bulldogs (2-12, 1-7 SJBL) for a 37-32 win.

They also got five points from both Emma Most and Isis Jaime, four from Emily and Ashley Cole, and Ericka Peacock knocked down a free throw.

The Mancos boys (6-10, 3-6 SJBL) followed with an even bigger win, taking down the Bulldogs (0-12, 0-8) with a final score of 84-14 for their second straight victory.

The Blue Jays had five scorers in double figures, led by Caden Showalter with 17 points, Anthony Medina added 13, Jake McKie scored 12, and Griff Huver and Adam Yoder each tallied 10. Caleb Yoder scored eight points and dished out 11 assists, Nic Baike scored seven, Hunter Hoover six and Hunter Goodwin one.

The Mancos squads will next travel to Norwood on Friday, and then they will wrap up the regular season at Ignacio (Feb. 16) and home versus Dolores (Feb. 17) before entering Class 2A District 3 tournament play.
