After being held at the Cortez Recreation Center for nearly six years, Stormy’s ATC Gymnastics classes are relocating.

Rayna Hale founded Stormy’s Gymnastics almost six years ago, and for the past two years, she has worked together with Randy Quillin’s ATC to offer gymnastics and tumbling classes.

Between the two, they have over 50 years of gymnastics experience – and along with Rachel Knox, Cathy Knox, Tara Fish and Julie Suckla – they instruct over 100 students during three different time slots.

However, the growth of their classes, along with the space available, leave little room to accommodate additional students.

When combined with the hassle of having to set up and tear down equipment in the rec center gymnasium, the two decided it was time to move.

“Our goal is to give every kid a chance,” said Hale. “That’s why we’re branching out.”

Hale and Quillin will officially merge their businesses on Sept. 8, during their grand opening at the new location at 2310 E. Empire, where they will share a building with Para Bellum Fitness.

While they currently have 75-100 students in each program, their plan is to grow to 300, and the space at the new location will allow for them to expand.

They will continue to offer classes for all levels and ages, with the goal of providing exercise while helping students reach physical, mental, emotional and social goals.

Quillin emphasizes building confidence.

“The model is to find the talent within the athletes, not the athletes with the talent,” he explained.

But Quillin and Hale also want for their students to have fun.

“They get to do everything parents tell them not to do,” said Hale. “They get to run, jump, climb – and they love it.”

While Stormy’s Gymnastics and ATC are consolidating and relocating, Hale notes that the other classes she teaches, like Zumba and No Whining, will remain at the recreation center.
