Tuesday, Aug. 4

5:24 p.m. Police responded to the 700 block of East 4th Street for a possible domestic disturbance. A woman reported that she was grabbed by the arm and pushed to the ground. A man reported that he escorted from the home after she became disrespectful towards his mother. No charges were filed.

Wednesday, Aug. 5

12:55 p.m. Police responded to Walmart for a shoplifter. A woman reportedly sprayed several towels with hair spray and was huffing inside a restroom. She was arrested and charged with shoplifting, underage possession of marijuana and interfering with police. Total loses included seven towels, 8 cans of hair spray and two pair of leggings valued at $92.

3:19 p.m. Police responded to North Mildred Road and Main Street for a physical altercation. Three juveniles reported they had been jumped and each punched in the face. One was briefly knocked unconscious. A suspect was named.

5:30 p.m. Police responded to ABC Fire and Safety LLC for vandalism. A man reported several locks were damaged, and a hose was cut.

8:13 p.m. Police responded to the 500 block of South Madison Street for a disturbance. A woman reported that she had been slapped and bitten. She refused to press charges. A man was arrested on four outstanding warrants.

10:04 p.m. Police responded to the 100 block of South Madison Street for vandalism. A woman reported that she had refused to give a man a ride, and he subsequently threw a brick through her rear window. The male subject was located at Cork & Bottle, where he was arrested and charged with violating a protection order, possession of alcohol, resisting arrest, false reporting, criminal mischief and an outstanding warrant.

11:07 p.m. Police responded to the 1st Street Car Wash for a disturbance. A man was arrested for violating a protection order.

Thursday, Aug. 6

12:05 p.m. Police responded to the 200 block of North Beech Street for a cold theft. A man reported that a flagpole was broken and a flag stolen. Total damages were estimated at $39.

12:20 p.m. Police ticketed a man for open container and possession of alcohol in City Park. Another man was arrested and charged with violating a protection order.

3:17 p.m. Police responded to Rocky Mountain Offenders Management for separate thefts after two subjects failed to show for appointments and turn in GPS ankle monitors.

11:21 p.m. Police responded to Walmart for a man bleeding inside the store. The man was arrested and charged with shoplifting for stealing a duffel bag that he had packed with boys clothing, oil, phone charger, a notebook and a six-pack of beer.

Friday, Aug. 7

12:03 a.m. Police responded to Once Upon a Sandwich for a trespass. A man was arrested.

12:29 a.m. Police responded to City Market for a man kicking the door. Bleeding from a cut above his eye, the man reported that he had been choked and kicked in the face.

1:30 a.m. A woman reported that her prescription medication was stolen from her room at Mesa Verde Inn.

7:45 a.m. Police responded to 4X4 Auto Sales for a break in. A wallet containing $100 was reported missing. Police noted a shop door wasn’t secured and multiple holes in a perimeter fence. A motorcycle was also reported damaged.

2:55 p.m. Police followed a motorist to Vista Verde Trailer Park under suspicion that the vehicle had been involved in a recent drug deal. A K-9 unit alerted on the vehicle. A spent 9 mm casing was found on the floor; several empty baggies, a magazine with one live round and a broken methamphetamine pipe were found inside the driver’s purse; and two large chunks of methamphetamine weighing 3.2 grams, a pipe and $552 were found in the driver’s clothing. A woman was arrested and charged with both drug possession and distribution.

Saturday, Aug. 8

7:50 a.m. Police ticketed a man with for open container and possession of alcohol in City Park.

9:12 a.m. A man reported that marijuana, alcohol and a .22 caliber handgun was stolen from his residence on the 10 block of East 4th Street. Police found no evidence to support the allegation.

12:35 p.m. Police responded to the 1500 block of South Broadway for a domestic incident. A woman reported that her boyfriend smashed a bug shield on her vehicle after he learned that she was pregnant. Police reported the man was Tasered after he resisted arrest. He was charged with assault, criminal mischief and domestic violence.

Sunday, Aug. 9

12:43 a.m. Police responded to Vista Grande Nursing Home for a burglarized vehicle. A wallet and several items of jewelry, valued at $990, were reported missing from one vehicle. A FM transmitter and a flashlight, valued at $40, were reported missing from another vehicle. A grocery bag with a pair of red thongs and cigarette butts were left inside one vehicle.

8:11 a.m. Police observed a man at City Park with an open container. He was arrested and charged with interfering with an officer, possession of alcohol in the park and an outstanding warrant.

8:49 a.m. A man reported a bottle of cologne, ammunition and two cigars were stolen from his unlocked vehicle at Sikis Village.

6:44 p.m. Police responded to the Montezuma-Cortez High School stadium parking lot for a self-inflicted gun shot wound. A man involved with a verbal altercation with his wife reportedly waved a .45 caliber revolver inside the vehicle, which included two children in the backseat. Attempting to place the firearm into a holster, the man shot his leg. He was ticketed for prohibited use of a weapon and child abuse.

Tuesday, Aug. 11

12:54 p.m. A woman reported that her unlocked vehicle was broken into while parked at Walmart. A backpack containing a journal was reported stolen. Losses totaled $230.

3:02 p.m. Police responded to the Cortez Public Library for a man attempting to break into vehicles. The man was arrested for disturbing the peace.

9:03 p.m. A woman reported that titles to a camper, automobile and two mobile homes were stolen from her unlocked residence on the 1500 block of East Empire Street.

Wednesday, Aug. 12

1 a.m. Police were advised to be on the lookout for a gold van used to flee the scene of a shoplifting incident at Handy Mart. A woman reportedly stole a pack of cigarettes. The vehicle was spotted at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds, but the suspect was able to elude authorities before crashing near Baker Sanitation. The female suspect fled the scene on foot. She was never apprehended. The van was reported stolen from the Ute Mountain Ute Casino. The pack of cigarettes and a pair of flip-flops were seized from inside the van.

2:59 p.m. Police responded to Centennial Park for a disturbance. A witness reported that a man was kicked in the face. The alleged attacker was ticketed for alcohol possession in the park. Another man was also ticketed for open container and alcohol possession in the park.

Thursday, Aug. 13

6:26 p.m. Police responded to Antonio’s for a man with a gun. A man reported that a boyfriend of his ex-wife pulled a pistol during a confrontation. The boyfriend told police he used his finger to point at the man. No charges were filed.

Friday, Aug. 14

8:07 a.m. A woman reported that a cell phone was stolen after she left it in a public restroom in a Farmington, N.M., shopping center.

2:18 p.m. Police responded to the City Pool for a stolen vehicle. A man reported an unlocked Buick Park Avenue was stolen after leaving the keys in the vehicle.

3:04 p.m. A man reported that a female in City Park assaulted him. His prescription glasses were broken after being punched in the face. The woman was arrested and charged with assault and criminal mischief. Total damages were estimated at $400.

9:33 p.m. Police responded to the intersection of East 4th Street and South Park Street for a gang of juvenile’s burglarizing multiple vehicles. Officers seized a pair of brass knuckles, drug paraphernalia and a loaded magazine clip from a 16-year-old boy, and an unopened beer bottle, drug paraphernalia and air soft pistol from a 16-year-old girl. Multiple tickets were issued to four teens, ranging from 14 to 16. All were released to their parents.

Saturday, Aug. 15

10:23 a.m. Police responded to the 200 block of South Park Street for a disturbance. Two juvenile girls reportedly were involved in a confrontation over a cell phone. One girl was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace after punching her grandfather.

12:57 p.m. Police responded to Walmart for shoplifting. A man reportedly stole two shirts, two candy bars and a canned drink. The man admitted to stealing the shirts to look nice on a job interview. He was ticketed for shoplifting and released.

Sunday, Aug. 16

4:33 a.m. Police responded to Southwest Memorial Hospital for a man with a hand laceration. The man reported he punched his hand through a window at Tullis Chiropractic after racial slurs were made toward him. He was ticketed for criminal mischief. Damages were estimated at $300.

2:30 p.m. Police conducted a civil standby at a residence on the 28000 block of U.S. 160. While on the scene, a man was arrested and charged violating a protection order, telephone harassment, domestic violence and violating bond conditions after he sent a woman a text message threatening to kill her.

8:19 p.m. Police responded to the 1300 block of Animas Street for a disturbance. A man and woman were both arrested and charged with disturbing the peace. Police had responded to the scene approximately two hours earlier and ticketed the woman for harassment after she waved a gun at neighbors.

8:32 p.m. Police responded to a vehicle accident with possible injuries at the intersection of Mildred Road and Main Street. A teenage driver was arrested and charged with DUI driving with a suspended license and issued and revocation notice. A teenage passenger was also arrested and jailed for underage consumption.

Monday, Aug. 17

3:18 p.m. Police responded to the 800 block of South Chestnut Street for a cold vandalism. A woman reported a tire was slashed.

3:19 p.m. Police responded to City Park for an assault. Police observed a man throw pretzel sticks at the alleged victim. He was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace for punching two different men.

4:41 p.m. A woman reported a cell phone was stolen from her unlocked vehicle on the 700 block of West 5th Street.

Tuesday, Aug. 18

10:54 a.m. Police responded to the Cortez Recreational Center for an assault in progress. A woman reportedly threw a stick, striking a child’s arm, before punching another woman’s jaw. The alleged attacker was arrested and charged with burglary, assault and child abuse.

2:51 p.m. Police responded to Walmart for a shoplifter that fled the scene. A man admitted to stealing a sandwich. He was arrested and charged with shoplifting after also stealing a T-shirt. Losses totaled $11.

11:49 p.m. A woman reported a protection order violation at a residence on the 500 block of South Cedar Street. A man resisted arrest, head-butting an officer and barking at a K-9 unit. He was charged with violating a protection order, domestic violence, criminal mischief, assault, resisting arrest and burglary.
