Coaches' action sent kids bad message

Did you watch the Cortez/Montezuma County High School Varsity Football game Friday evening to see if what the assistant coaches desired to implement would show respectably when the team met Miyamura?

Did we see indeed an impressive showing?

The cheer leading, band and dance teams performed admirably! But unless you were a Miyamura fan, you may have been disappointed.

The much younger MCHS team made a gallant effort given their instruction, but it appeared that the overall plan may have been lacking.

The Journal noted that an assistant coach commented that the termination of the head coach was for the benefit of the kids. I am having trouble in identifying what that meant.

If it meant that the act of the assistant coaches walking off and threatening resignation in order to assure their own desired outcome, instead of working out the differences of opinion on defense strategy and punting with the head coach or compromising set an example for the kids, then this is how you "get 'er done."

This leadership could set an unintended message to the players.
