Rodeo team has good showing in weekend event

The Ute Mountain High School rodeo team performed well at the Colorado State High School Rodeo Association rodeo over Labor Day Weekend at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds.

Stormi Pitman and Maddie Shaline led the way for the girls’ team on Day 1, with Pitman finishing fourth in barrel racing and Shaline right behind in fifth.

Pitman also took third in cutting and third in pole bending during the first day of competition.

Shaline finished eighth in pole bending during the first day and fifth in day three’s breakaway roping.

Breanna Maxwell was fourth in girls’ cutting on day one and 11th in pole bending on day three, Bailee Karo finished 10th in pole bending on day one and Cayce Lockhart finished fifth in the final pole bending event.

On the boys’ side for day one, Cade Van Soelen was sixth in tie down roping with Pacen Rowe finishing 14th, and David Jones finished in fourth in breakaway roping and seventh in goat tying.

The rodeo team travels to Craig this weekend for another competition.
