Expect delays on Colorado 145 into November as crews improve the intersection at County Road P.

Upgrades include left-turn lanes for traffic onto east and westbound County Road P. A southbound deceleration and right-turn lane onto westbound P also will be installed.

The improvements include two layers of asphalt, and asphalt approaches on CR P.

“There will be minor widening to accommodate these auxiliary lanes,” said CDOT spokesperson Nancy Shanks. “People turning left onto Road P will no longer be sitting ducks, and have their own left turn lane as they wait for a break in traffic.”

The estimated budget is $1.6 million for design through construction, which is expected to be completed by Nov. 20.

Old Castle Southwest Inc. was awarded the contract. Crews will work 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset.

Drivers can expect single-lane, alternating traffic and delays of 15 minutes or longer, depending on the volume of traffic.

The intersection sees 6,300 cars a day each year.

Montezuma County is contributing $83,000 for the upgrade, or about 5 percent of the costs.

The projects are part of the Responsible Acceleration of Maintenance and Partnerships program, which dedicates $580 million to expand the state transportation system.

CDOT funds multiyear projects based on year of expenditure, rather than saving for the full amount of a project before construction begins.
