Award-winning cellist and vocalist Jami Sieber will perform a solo concert at the Millwood Junction on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Sieber’s style ranges from ethereal to hard-edged, earning her rave reviews in Europe, Asia and North America.
Employing looping devices and electronics to create sounds never associated with the cello, she transforms her instrument into an orchestra of sound.
Sieber’s path has traveled from classical to folk to rock/pop to where she now stands alone with her style. With her popular band Rumors of the Big Wave, she garnered the coveted Northwest Area Music Association Award for Best Rock Instrumentalist.
Since launching her solo career in 1994, she has performed her original compositions around the world, diving into dynamic collaborations with an extraordinary spectrum of dancers, actors, poets, visual artists, improvisers, vocalists, and instrumentalists.
She has been commissioned to compose for the films “As She Is” (2014), PBS American Masters “Dorothea Lange: Grab A Hunk of Lightning” (2014), “Big Joy: The Adventures of James Broughton” (2013), and “Queen of the Sun” (2010), “Jews and Buddhism: Belief Amended, Faith Revealed” (1999).
She also has composed for theater in “Orpheus, TS Crossing,” the Llory Wilson and Tallulah, Equus Dance Co, and for the popular video game “Braid.”
Her commitment to the environment, social justice and the healing arts is at the heart of her music, reflecting a deep dedication to the arts as a medium of exploration and awareness of the interconnectedness of all beings.
