The Mancos Blue Jays are getting a second bye-week this Friday, and they don’t have a say in the matter.
“Actually, we don’t want a week off,” co-head coach Bill Parsons said at practice on Monday. “But after playing Sargent on Friday night, we need a week off. We got some guys that are pretty bruised up and we’ve got some things to work on that we didn’t do too well.”
Last week, the Blue Jays traveled to Monte Vista to take on the 3-1 Farmers, and after a slow start, they found themselves trailing 6-36 at halftime.
Mancos held the Farmers to eight points in the third quarter and scored six, but the Blue Jays were outscored 24-0 in the final frame, losing the game 12-68.
Mancos had originally been scheduled to play Shiprock Northwest this Friday, but the Falcons were forced to cancel due to low numbers from players being ineligible.
But as Parsons said, the Blue Jays can use the extra time off to prepare for next week’s game against Sierra Grande.
“It’s going to help us,” said co-head coach Josh Gardner. “We’ve got some things to iron out.”
