School Supt. Resigns
Dr. J. D. Hathaway, superintendent of the Dolores School District Re-4A, tendered his resignation at a special meeting of the board last Thursday night. The meeting was originally called to discuss the proposed budget.
Hathaway has accepted a position as Assistant Superintendent of the Steamboat Springs school system and will start work there. Nov. 3. He was chosen from over 40 applications for the job.

Elk Hunters Here
Elk hunters will take to the field Saturday, October 11, as the elk season opens in Colorado for 1975.
More than 125,000 elk hunters are expected to pursue their quarry between then and the close of the season on October 21. And that means the current season could surpass records set in 1974 when 127,436 hunters harvested 23,332 elk, according to Perry Olson, Division of Wildlife big game supervisor.
County Lease at $10 Per Acre
Montezuma County has leased mineral rights to Shell Oil Co. on 1559 acres of land for $10.00 per acre according to Montezuma County Commissioner Harold McComb following their meeting Monday.
McComb reports that in the past oil leases have gone at $5.00 per acre but that the commissioners felt that the price of oil had gone up among other factors and so held out for the $10 price rather than accepting the $5 per acre first offered.
Award Night
A family night of potluck and awards was held last Saturday, Oct. 4 for members of Montezuma Lodge No. 145 A.F. and A.M and their families.
A special award was made to Curt Carlson for his having served as secretary for 20 years.

National Forest Travel Restrictions Announced
Darold Westerburg, Forest Supervisor of the San Juan National Forest, has announced that special restrictions governing travel in the local National Forest are in effect and should be noted by hunters and other users of the Forest.
The special travel restrictions have been established, according to Westerburg, in order to protect Forest values, safeguard users, and minimize conflicts of use.
Senator Hart to Speak in Cortez
Senator Gary Hardt will be in the area on October 13. There will be a luncheon at the Pony Express at noon on Monday, October 13. Hart will be the main speaker. Reservations can be made by contacting Nancy Porter or Charlene Dale.
