The Mancos boys cross-country team finished in the top three at the state championship for the second straight year.

The Blue Jays finished third, and were led by senior Ro Paschal (17:06.8), who finished sixth.

Simon Kearns finished in 12th place (17:30.)

Jake McKie (18:50), Nic Archuleta (18:58), Asa Kearns (19:12) and Caleb Yoder (20:17) finished 40th, 45th, 57th and 78th.

“To see this group of seniors run for the last time was very special,” head coach Brady Archer said in an email. “It was also great to see our younger runners step up and help this team to a third-place finish.”

The Mancos girls didn’t qualify for state, but senior Emma Most secured a spot with her 15th-place finish at regionals.

“I know for Emma it was tough to be out there without her teammates,” Archer said.

In Colorado Springs on Saturday, Most’s time of 22:47 was good for 45th place. Her time was a 1:45 improvement from the pre-state meet at the beginning of the season on the same course.

“To make it to the state meet is an accomplishment in itself,” Archer said. “These runners should be very proud of the way they ran all season and at this meet.”
