The Montezuma-Cortez High School Panthers lost a pair of Southwestern League road games on Friday and Saturday to Grand Junction Central, 10-9, and Grand Junction, 11-4. Chris Black pitched four innings and only gave up two earned runs against Central. M-CHS (5-12, 1-8 4A SL) will conclude its season on the road at Bayfield today at 4 p.m. and at rival Durango on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Dolores Bears reached 11-straight wins by crushing rival Dove Creek, 30-2 and 42-6 in a doubleheader on the road Saturday afternoon. Dolores (14-3, 9-0 2A San Juan Basin League) got 10 hits from Tyler Underwood in both games and two home runs, while recording 13 RBIs. Austin McCracken and Byron Crites got wins on the mound in each game. For Dove Creek (1-16, 1-8 1A SJBL), senior Jeff Sparks hit a combined 3-for-6 between both games in the final baseball games of his career.
Dolores, No. 8 in this weeks Denver Post class 2A rankings, will be at districts on Saturday in Grand Junction when they take on Rangely at 12:30 p.m. at Canyon View Sports Complex. If the Bears win, they will play in the tournament championship at 3 p.m. If they lose to Rangely, their season ends.
