Cheer and dance teams take first

The Montezuma-Cortez cheer and dance teams both took home first-place awards in the Four Corners Regional Spirit Competition on Saturday in Durango.

The dance team finished first with its hip-hop routine and third with its pom routine. The cheerleading squad took first place in its category.

Head dance coach Teaa Warinner said that she and head cheer coach Emily Martin were very proud of their teams.

Both teams will compete in the state competition in Denver on Dec. 11-12.

The cheer team will perform on Friday, Dec. 11, and the dance team will perform on Saturday, Dec. 12.
