Geoquest to be based in Mancos area for two years
The underpinnings of the state’s economy, especially in rural Colorado, are small businesses.
Within the economic sectors of agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, high technology and exploration come from small business.
Geoquest Explorations, based in Mancos for the next two years, has its parent company, owned by J.R. Butler, in Houston. With its local monthly payroll of $100,000, they are doing their part of distributing some much-needed capital within a 100-mile radius of Mancos.
The average number of Geoquest employees from the Montelores area is 27, with an additional 10 contracted from elsewhere.
Board considers impact funds
The approval of $310,000 in energy impact funds for the Mancos School District was the main item on the agenda during the school board’s meeting Nov. 15.
School superintendent Julio Archuleta, reported that he will apply immediately for county facilitation funds (fees collected from land developers and subdividers) with school board approval, which was granted.
At the same time, Archuleta will establish a building fund and ask for bid presentations for the entire project which will include a new multi-purpose facility ad two new classrooms.
Archuleta and board member Charles Mitchell, will be responsible for screening applicants before their presentations. Construction is expected to start by April 1.
Mancos prepares for Thanksgiving
A pause in the hectic daily lives and the preparations for winter events comes Thursday when the area observes Thanksgiving.
Most people in Mancos will find innumerable reasons to be thankful, after realizing they have friends and loved ones, peace, prosperity, freedom and innumerable other things that most of the rest of the world doesn’t have.
