The BLM is planning to remove a recent rock slide that is blocking access to Yellow Jacket Canyon.

An environmental assesment is being prepared to analyze the proposed removal. The rock slide is blocking access for hikers and livestock onto the Sandstone grazing allotment.

The project would be done with the use of air powered drills to make holes, and expanding slurry or explosives to fracture the rocks. In addition heavy equipment would be used to remove the rock fragments. Small explosives will be used to reduce the chance of flyrock. Access to this part of the monument is via County Road 14 and BLM road #4528.
