The Montezuma-Cortez High School Panthers baseball team had its season come to a close with a 10-4 loss at rival Durango on Thursday afternoon.

M-CHS (5-13, 1-9 4A Southwestern League) led 2-0 in the first-inning and only trailed 5-4 after two innings, but did not score again. The Panthers threatened in the top of the seventh-inning with the bases loaded, but senior shortstop Ryan Haley struck out for the third out. Senior starting pitcher Chris Black took the loss on the mound and the Panthers totaled seven hits as a team.

“We didn’t play as well as we could have defensively, but they (Durango) got the hits when they needed them,” M-CHS coach Sam Perry said. “They got a hit and they never letup on us. We just never could really get to their starting pitcher.”
