Anchored by its trademark “Peace On Earth” sign on the hillside, Dolores doesn’t disappoint when it comes to holiday lighting.

Again this year, again residents and the town got into the spirit, decking out their homes and streets in festive lights, Santa Clauses, sleighs, 10-foot-tall snowmen, and the traditional decorated sail boat.

“It’s seems better this year,” said Jeanne Scrivner, a judge for the annual lighting contest. “People love to get festive, so that’s nice.”

Results are in for the friendly competition. Cozy Comfort RV Park and the Pony Expressso tied for first place in the commercial category.

Every year, the two businesses ramp it up a notch, and have traded first and second place.

The Cozy Comfort’s theme is “Starry Night”, said owner Brenda Savage and this year the RV park added a meteor shower and laser lights.

At Pony Expresso, barista Bailee Karo said “It looks amazing. People love the Christmas music set to the many colorful lights.”

First place for the residential went to 200 N. Eightth Street. Scrivner said they “went all out” and “it’s impressive.” The home at 201 N. Ninth St. took second, and 308 Riverside got third. Honorable mentions went to 1151 Merritt Way for their nicely lighted trees along the river, and also to the lighted sailboat on 8th Street.

Top winners will share gift certificates from The Ponderosa restaurant, Dolores Market, That Place in Dolores, and Empire Electric.
