Preview Jorgenson Bluegrass Band boasts a proven pedigree

If you are a bluegrass fan, or even if you are not, you are in for a treat when the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band performs in Cortez on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the M-CHS Auditorium at 7 p.m.

This fabulous group of virtuoso musicians will blow you away with their spectacular performance, which is brought to the Four Corners by SouthWest Colorado Concerts as part of their 2015/16 season.

The leader of the band is John Jorgenson, known for his blistering guitar and mandolin licks and his mastery of a broad musical palette. He has earned his reputation as a world-class musician, evidenced by his collaborations with Earl Scruggs, Bonnie Rait, Elton John, Bob Dylan and others. He won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumentalist with Brad Paisley and received a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album with Earl Scruggs. He was a member of the Elton John Band for six years and played Django Reinhardt in the Hollywood film “Head In The Cloud.”

Herb Pedersen, on banjo, was a member of the legendary bluegrass band The Dillards. His own groups like the Laurel Canyon Ramblers and the Desert Rose Band further illustrate his deep respect in the industry

Mark Fain, bass, toured and recorded in the award-winning Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years. He has toured with Dolly Parton and Dwight Yoakam and has performed with many other artists in the bluegrass, jazz, country and gospel genres.

Patrick Sauber, guitarist, is equally at home on mandolin and banjo. He has played with Doc Watson, Dan Crary and tours often with Laurie Lewis. Patrick was chosen by Christopher Guest to be a cast member of the hit film “A Might Wind,” appearing on camera as well as on the soundtrack.

For bluegrass fans, this in one terrific band. For non-bluegrass fans, this is still one terrific band If you are not a bluegrass fan now, you will be after seeing this fabulous show. Season tickets will be on sale at the door beginning at 6 p.m., $45 for adults and $10 for youth 18 years old and under. Single concert tickets will go sale at the door beginning at 6:40 p.m., $20 for adults and $5 for youth.

SouthWest Colorado Concerts continues its season with a Celebrate! Local Musicians concert on Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m. featuring the smooth harmonies of Sweetwater Station and the hot Latin sounds of Simone Sanchez and the Cortez Machine. The season concludes Sunday, May 1 at 7 p.m. with Brassfire, featuring former Canadian Brass member and virtuoso trumpeter Jens Lindemann accompanied by piano, bass and drums.
