Ute Mtn. rodeo does well in Eagle

The Ute Mountain Rodeo Club has finished travel to six of the nine cities scheduled in the Colorado Junior High and High School rodeo spring season.

Their most recent rodeo was last Friday through Sunday in Eagle. The cumulative event leader list shows where each member is standing in their events in the Colorado state standings.

There were a total of 150 entries for the Jr. High Division in Eagle. Placings at the Eagle No. 1 Jr. High Division were barrel racing, Cayce Lockhart, seventh, and Breanna Maxwell, 16th; chute dogging, Riley Van Soelen, fourth; and pole bending, Whitney Finley, 11th, and Maxwell, seventh.

At the Eagle No. 2 rodeo Jr. High Division, placing for barrel racing was Lockhart, 11th, and Maxwell 13th; chute dogging, Van Soelen, third; pole bending, Finley, eighth, and Maxwell, 10th.

Overall event leaders in the Jr. High Division include, team roping, Cade Van Soelen, 22nd; ribbon roping, Cammie Maxwell, 24th, Lockhart and Cade Van Soelen, 29th; pole bending, Cammie Maxwell, 19th, Finley, 21st, Breanna Maxwell, 22nd; girls breakaway, Finley, 13th; chute dogging, Riley Van Soelen, second; barrel racing, Lockhart, 12th, Breanna Maxwell, 20th.

High school place statistics for the Eagle No. 1 rodeo among 211 entries were, barrel racing, Kacey Schurr, seventh, Savannah Simmons, 20th, and Laycee Jones, 28th; goat tying, Schurr, 10th; pole bending, Simmons, sixth.

The Eagle No. 2 rodeo results were, saddle bronc, Tanner Lockhart, first; barrel racing, Schur; sixth, Simmons, 15th, Jones, 18th; goat tying, Schurr, 14th; pole bending, Simmons; eighth.

The High School Division overall state event leader statistics to date are, saddle bronc, Tanner Lockhart, third; bull riding, Trevor Holaday, eighth, Wyatt Mattausch; 13th; pole bending, Simmons, 13th, Schurr; 24th; goat tying, Schurr, 12th; breakaway roping, Simmons, 27th; barrel racing, Schurr, ninth, and Simmons, 31st.

The Colorado State Jr. High Finals will be held in Monte Vista on Friday and Saturday, May 27-28. The Colorado State High School Finals will be in Craig from June 15-19. From here, contestants hope to qualify for the Jr. High National Finals in Gallup, N.M., or the High School National Finals in Gillette, Wyo., later in the summer. Junior High Division rodeo athletes who qualify in the top four of their position will have the opportunity to compete at the Junior High National Finals. High School Division rodeo athletes from Colorado placing top four will represent their event at the National High School Finals Rodeo. Rodeo athletes placing fifth through 10th will compete at the Silver State International Rodeo in Winnemucca, Nev.
