The Colorado Department of Human Services has awarded a Family Support Services grant to The Piñon Project to enhance services at the nonprofit center in Cortez.
The Piñon Project was one of 10 Family Resource Centers in Colorado to receive funds from the grant.
The Family Resource Center program was established in 1993 by Colorado’s 59th General Assembly through Senate Bill 131. The centers serve vulnerable families, individuals and youths by providing one-on-one assistance to assess a family’s strengths and needs. Family advocates help families develop goals and action plans to increase their self-reliance and provide support, referrals, and encouragement.
“Family Resource Centers are important community partners, offering multiple programs that help keep children and families safe and strong,” said Mary Anne Snyder, director of Human Services office of early childhood. “This funding enriches the long standing public-private partnership that family resource centers exemplify. As families attain their goals and thrive, communities become stronger as well.”
The Piñon Project Family Resource Center is a nonprofit that originated in 1994 as a result of a community grassroots effort under the Healthy Communities Initiative. The Piñon Project is a member of The Family Resource Center Association network of 24 family resource centers that work with families to improve parenting, health, education, employment, housing, and financial management.
