M-CHS student awarded Rees Scholarship to attend Mesa

Taylor Rucker, a senior at Montezuma-Cortez High School, has been awarded a Bill and Peg Rees Scholarship to attend Mesa State College. Taylor is a promising and motivated student who has demonstrated strong character, leadership and a commitment to community service. Taylor is the son of Vernon and Lindy Rucker.

The Bill and Peg Rees Scholarship Fund resulted from an endowment made by Mr. and Mrs. Rees to provide higher education opportunities for graduates of high schools in Dolores and Montezuma counties. The Bill Rees Scholarship Fund was the first endowed fund of Onward!, A Legacy Community Foundation and provides a renewable scholarship of approximately $1,000 a semester for four years ($2,000/year).

Successful applicants must be graduates of high schools in Dolores or Montezuma counties. Other requirements include clearly communicated educational goals and objectives, significant financial need, strong academic performance, participation in various school activities, diverse community involvement, and self awareness.
