The Montezuma County assessor is warning residents of an offer by mail that charges to obtain property information that is available for free.
“All the information is on our website or available at our office,” said county assessor Scott Davis. “It is a type of legal scam that targets the elderly.”
The assessors office provides information on county taxes, assessed valuations, comparable values, deeds, legal descriptions, flood reports, tax delinquency, and more.
Davis said the letter charges $83 to obtain the information. It was submitted to the DA’s office.
