Timeline of Wildcat Mining’s violations and orders

Nov 3, 2008: The Colorado Division of Mining, Reclamation and Safety (DMRS) found an illegal road constructed at Mayday-Idaho mining complex, and brought forth a violation that was issued by the Mined Land Reclamation Board for commencing mining activity without permit. A subsequent investigation then found the operator, Wildcat Mining Corporation, was violating the cease and desist order, and also found an illegal portal was constructed.

Nov. 24, 2008: DMRS found an illegally constructed mill inside of the illegal portal.

Dec. 9, 2009: Another violation issued for failure to comply with cease and desist order, and a second violation was issued for construction of the mine portal.

March 5, 2010: Another violation was issued for installing a mill facility in the mining network.

June 3, 2010: Inspection found a new portal was opened to be used as emergency escape way. DMRS also noted material was pushed into Little Deadwood Gulch and Mayday 2 area.

Dec. 12, 2011: Board authorized the following stipulations: repair the access road, stabilize Mayday 1, various work at Mayday 2, repair Chief portal, and mitigate Little Deadwood Gulch.

March 12, 2012 to April 1, 2013: Wildcat ordered to commence work and complete by Sept. 30.

Sept. 30, 2013: DMRS found work had not even commenced and brought on another violation.

Nov. 2013: DMRS asked board to revoke Wildcat’s permit. Board decided to suspend.

Jan. 2014: All parties agree on new plan to get Wildcat in compliance.

June 2014: Wildcat outlined plan for repairs by the end of 2014 construction season.

Aug. 7, 2014: DMRS determined access road finally built, yet no other work or repairs done.

Oct. 22, 2014: Inspection found Wildcat had not finished work at Mayday 1, never started at Mayday 2, Chief portal or Little Deadwood Gulch.

2015: “Nothing,” occurred at the site, said DMRS’s Russ Means. “That’s why we took them to the board.”

January 2016: DMRS and the board gave Wildcat a July 1 deadline to finish repairs or face revocation of license.
