Gov. John Hickenlooper and a bipartisan group of local leaders will join supporters of the Raise the Bar, Protect Our Constitution ballot initiative campaign to kick off their signature-gathering effort in Aurora at 11 a.m. in the lobby of the Aurora City Hall.
Colorado’s new lieutenant governor, Donna Lynne, will be in Durango on Thursday, July 2.Signature gatherers will join Raise the Bar supporters in towns across the state including Alamosa, Craig, Fort Morgan, Colorado Springs, Durango, Grand Junction, Pueblo and Frisco.
“We’re honored to have the governor join us at our launch event in Aurora, just as we’re elated that the new lieutenant governor will be at the kickoff in Durango and former legislators like Dan Gibbs and Kathleen Curry will join us in Frisco,” said Kate Roberts, of the Raise the Bar Campaign. “With many of the state’s most respected Republicans also endorsing this initiative – leaders like Bill Cadman, Bill Owens, Ellen Roberts, and Mike Kopp – you really see the bipartisan reach of the Raise the Bar campaign.”
The Raise the Bar initiative seeks to make it harder to amend Colorado’s constitution by requiring constitutional ballot initiative proponents to gather signatures from two percent of all registered voters in each of Colorado’s 35 State Senate districts. The proposal also requires approval from 55 percent of voters in November to amend Colorado’s constitution.
“In a year when political acrimony are in full boil, this initiative making it more difficult for special interest groups to amend the constitution is a cause that citizens from all backgrounds and all parts of the state are rallying behind,” Roberts said.
