Simon Kearns, of Mancos, won the final race in the Geer Park Trail Series on Saturday, finishing the 10K in 48 minutes and 57 seconds.

He was followed by: Kenny Rennick (50:10), Sonny Boren (51:48), Dylan Schwindt (1:01:28), Gina Denten (1:05:13), Emily Hunter (1:17:53), Derwin Velarde (1:25:37) and Cecilia Brady (1:36:33).

Organizer Megan Flesch said that she believed participation numbers were lower than they had been in previous races in the series due to the weather and summer schedules.

The trail series was sponsored by Johnson Physical Therapy, Osprey Packs, Kokopelli Bike and Board, Tuffy Security Products, and Durango Running Company – and all proceeds were donated to the Montezuma Land Conservancy in order to promote trails and public land usage in the county.

The 10K capped off the current series of races, but Flesch expects the series to return.

“We are planning to continue the series in the future – potentially in the fall but for sure, again next spring,” Flesch said in an email. “There are also plans to have more mountain bike races/time trials at Geer Park in the future as well.”
