Simone and Renita Conny have opened Circle C RV Park south of Dolores just off Colorado Highway 145. The clubhouse includes a pool table, kitchen and store.

Weary of city life, Simone and Renita Conny decided to come up for some fresh air and open the Circle C RV campground on a scenic hillside just outside Dolores.

“We’ve been visiting for years, and decided it was time to enjoy some rural living and get out of the hustle and bustle of the big city,” said Simone Conny, who has lived in the Denver area.

The couple purchased 15 acres at Colorado Highway 145 and County Road T and renovated it into a 16-space RV park with hookups. The campground has a spacious lodge with a store, kitchen and pool table. Secluded tent sites, a summer cabin and a vacation home also are available to rent.

The area is a convenient spot for an RV park, says Renita Conny, whether you’re a tourist or a worker looking for affordable housing.

“We’ve got great views, and we’re close to a lot of attractions like McPhee Reservoir, the Anasazi Heritage Center, public lands and the trails and river in Dolores,” she said.

Renita also is a musician and instructor. She put in a music studio on site and offers lessons in flute, piano, guitar and voice.

“I teach a lot of styles of music at any level,” she said. “I want to provide music education to the community, so my rates are affordable, and I take all ages.”

The lessons cost $80, and include four, half-hour sessions.

The refurbished property has a campground feel with fire rings, a shower house, a store stocked with camping food, ice-cream and outdoor gear, and Western decor throughout.

“We did a lot of work to it,” Simone said, including hauling off a lot of junk, painting all the buildings, bringing in 900 tons of gravel, and a lot of renovations to accommodate guests.

The three-bedroom, two-bath vacation home sleeps up to 10 people, has a hot tub, gazebo, commercial grill and wheelchair ramps. It’s fully furnished, and costs $195 per night.

“It’s so much more comfortable than a hotel for family reunions, weddings, graduations and hunters and fishermen,” Renita said.

RV sites run at $38 per night, and monthly rates are available. A cabin rents for $55 per night, and tent sites go for $20 per night.

“It is so quiet and beautiful at night here,” said Renita. “At first, the silence it was a little unnerving, but now I love it and realize what we have been missing. We’re looking forward to serving our guests.”

There will be a grand opening on June 17 from 6-8 p.m. Donny Johnson will play and there will be free hamburgers and hot dogs.
