Mancos State Park plans events

The summer continues at Mancos State Park with programs for people of all ages.

An evening program will be held every Friday at 7 p.m. in the park amphitheater. A park naturalist will lead butterfly walks every Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. At 4 p.m. on Saturdays, children and adults are invited to play games about the wildlife and habitat of the park. A 10 a.m. nature walk will take place on Sundays.

More events will be announced. The park is located north of Mancos on Road 42. Admission at the park is $7 for a day pass or $70 for an annual pass.

Saturday, June 18Boating and Fishing, 9 a.m.Meet at the covered picnic area to learn how much fun being on the water can be, along with some safety tips. Free coloring books and other prizes for kids.

Lynne Lewis and Slim McWilliams, 7 p.m.Musician Lynne Lewis has a beautiful voice and fun style, and is co-owner of Rimrock Outfitters. Slim McWilliams is a local cowboy poet and singer.

Saturday, June 25 Performance in the Park, 7 p.m.Meet in the amphitheater for music and fun for all ages. Performer to be announced.

Saturday, July 2Boating and Fishing, 9 a.m.Meet at the covered picnic area to learn how much fun being on the water can be, along with some safety tips. Free coloring books and other prizes for kids.

‘Mancos’ John Pfeifer 7 p.m.Mancos John is back to regale listeners of all ages with new and old stories — and maybe a song or two — about the area. Meet in the amphitheater.

Sunday, July 3Independence Day Parade, noonMeet at the covered picnic area to get “creped out” in patriotic colors and follow the music as we parade through the main campground. Creative costumes encouraged.

Saturday, July 9Sweetwater Station, 7 p.m.Local favorite Marilyn Kroeker and her band Sweetwater Station will perform at the amphitheater.

Saturday, Aug. 27Nature Walk, 9 a.m.Meet at the covered picnic area to discover the unique sights and sounds for morning wildlife, unique plants, and explore the Vista Trail to the bridge and back. Bring appropriate shoes, clothing and water.

Star Party, 8 p.m.Star expert John Buting will help us understand the night sky in ways many of us never considered.
