Fashion is playing a part to help women in Montezuma and Dolores counties with their fight against breast and reproductive cancers. The 6th annual Pretty in Pink Fashion Show will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13 and 100 percent of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Women’s Cancer Coalition.

As part of the event, Love on a Hanger will feature fall and winter 2016 fashions and a pop-up shop. There will also be silent and live auctions, dancing performances, fashion tutorials, complimentary dessert and a cash bar. The event will be held at Four Seasons Greenhouse and Nursery, 6 miles north of Cortez, at 26650 CR P, Dolores.

“I look forward to organizing the event each year,” said Love on a Hanger owner Tiffani Waters. “The event has grown into something that is very near and dear to my heart. I am committed to raising awareness about the Women’s Cancer Coalition and how much they can provide for women in our community in need.”

The Pretty in Pink Fashion Show was started in 2011 as a small event hosted at JFargos and has grown from 50 attendees to more than 250 guests and a change of venue and format. Over the last five years the event has raised over $21,000, the best year being 2015 with proceeds over $12,000.

“Our goal last year was to raise $10,000. It seemed like quite a stretch as it was nearly double what we raised in 2014, but we were humbly surprised to see the community come together and raise more than we had hoped for,” said Waters. “It is amazing to see how caring and generous our community truly is.

This year, we are once again challenging ourselves and the community to raise even more, our goal is to raise $17,000.”

Tickets are required for admission to the show. General admission seating is a $20 donation, and VIP (front row) seating is a $35 donation. Tickets can be purchased at Love on a Hanger, Salon Serenity online at http://bit.ly/2a1Eoxr or at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the fashion show will start at 7 p.m.

The Women’s Cancer Coalition is a nonprofit organization that has been helping women in Montezuma and Dolores counties since 2003. Its continuing mission is to educate all women in the area about breast and reproductive cancers and to offer financial assistance to women for mammograms, Pap tests and expenses related to women’s cancer. For more information about the organization and funding, call Connie Fisher at the Community Health Clinic of Dove Creek at 970-677-3623.
