M-CHS cyclists qualify for state championship

Montezuma-Cortez students Andrei Hious and Gabe Frizzell have qualified for the Colorado High School Cycling State Championships.

Riding for High Desert Composite, Hious, a sophomore, and Frizzell, a freshman, each completed the required minimum of three regular season races and scored well enough to advance.

Racing in the sophomore division, Hious finished 11th at the Frisco Bay Invitational, 22nd at the Cloud City Challenge, 20th at the Granby Ranch Roundup, and then wrapped up the regular season with a 15th place finish at the Chalk Creek Stampede last weekend.

Frizzell, who races in the freshman division, placed 29th in the season opener at Frisco, took 55th at the Granby Ranch Roundup, and finished 33rd last weekend at the Chalk Creek Stampede.

The two riders will next travel to Eagle to compete in the 2016 State Championships on Sunday, Oct. 23.
