A webcam at the top of Telluride Ski Resort’s Lift 9 shows new snow piling up on Monday morning.

Montezuma County is expected to get up to 2 inches of snow today and Tuesday, with up to 10 inches of new snow in the San Juan Mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

The snowfall is part of a storm system that moved into western Colorado through Utah this weekend. A winter storm  that began this weekend was extended until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Last weekend’s storm dumped 1-2 feet of snow in the San Juan Mountains. Telluride Ski Resort on Monday reported 8 inches of snow in the past 24 hours and that it would open on Friday, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. at Mountain Village.

“We’re excited to mark the official start of the 2016 – 2017 ski season, albeit a week later than we had planned,” Bill Jensen, CEO of Telluride Ski & Golf Resort, said in a news release. “Our snowmaking and operations team has been working around the clock to get our mountain ready, and we look forward to a strong start to the season.”

Purgatory Resort was reporting 14 inches from the weekend storm.

In Cortez, expect cooler temperatures through the weekend. Highs are expected to be in the low 30s, and overnight lows are expected to be 12-15 degrees. Patchy snowfall is expected before 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
