Intermittent delays are expected from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday on Red Mountain Pass, where the Colorado Department of Transportation will be conducting avalanche-control mitigation.

Motorists traveling Red Mountain Pass between Silverton and Ouray can expect delays Wednesday while the Colorado Department of Transportation conducts avalanche-control work along U.S. Highway 550.

More than 2 feet of snow fell earlier this week across parts of the San Juan Mountains. As a result, the avalanche danger was “considerable” as of Tuesday night, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

Motorists traveling north and south can expect one-hour intermittent delays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday while crews trigger potential snowslides and then clear the road, according to a news release from CDOT.
