Teslin Stecher is used to running 3.1 miles.

The Mancos sophomore has been a key contributor to the Blue Jays cross-country team for the past two seasons.

This fall, Stecher ran his best 5K time at the Class 2A Region 4 Championship in Delta, finishing the race in 17:08.22 to place seventh and help the Blue Jays win the regional title.

The following week, he finished the Class 2A State Championships race in 18:11.23 to place 21st as the Jays took fifth as a team.

But after the 2016 season, he began upping his mileage.

And on Sunday, Dec. 10, Stecher competed in the inaugural Four Corners Quad Keyah Marathon Challenge.

The Quad Keyah Series and Navajo Parks Race Series, organized by the Navajo Nation based nonprofit organization Y.E.S. for Dine’ Bikeyah (NavajoYES), featured a marathon and half-marathon race each day from Thursday through Sunday.

And each day, the race began and ended in a different four corner state.

Stecher ran in Sunday’s marathon, beginning and ending in New Mexico, and he finished in 3 hours 36 minutes and 4 seconds to win the men’s division and set the course record.
