The Delbert Anderson Trio brings its Native chant-fused jazz to the Sunflower Theatre on Friday.

The Delbert Anderson Trio with Def-I, rebranding themselves as DDAT, return to the Sunflower Theatre on Friday, Feb. 3 , with their unique mix of Southwestern funk, jam, world, jazz and hip-hop.

Formed in the deserts of the Southwest, the band combines modern funk and jazz with ancient indigenous melodies.

Def-I lays his unique hip-hop rhymes and melodies skillfully on top of the trio’s jazz jams for an unmatched musical experience.

DDAT received recognition as one of NPR’s top 10 favorites in the 2016 Tiny Desk Contest, filmed at the Sunflower Theatre.

The Delbert Anderson Trio (DAT) with members Delbert Anderson, Nicholas Lucero and Mike McCluhan, were oddities in their small community – all talented jazz musicians with international touring and playing experience. They decided to get together and experiment with their unconventional instrumentation and influences.

DAT knew it had something unique pulling from each individual members musicianship and being inspired by Delbert’s Navajo Upbringing. Fusing their unique jazz, funk and traditional Native American elements – DAT has performed and built a devoted audience across the United States.

DDAT continues to honor Anderson’s musical and cultural heritage while consistently pushing what it means to be a jazz trio with progressive attitude and contemporary sound to create music that is emotionally compelling, rhythmically rich and melodically satisfying. The addition of Hip Hop is yet another adventure in their experimentation.
