Eli Tomac, of Cortez, Colorado, finished first on Saturday in the 450SX Supercross in Toronto, to move into second place on the season.

TORONTO — Eli Tomac, of Cortez, Colorado, raced to his fourth Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450SX Class victory of the season Saturday night, beating second-place Ryan Dungey by 14.2 seconds at Rogers Centre.

Tomac has won four of the past six events, also topping the podium in Glendale, Arizona; Oakland, California; and Minneapolis. The Kawasaki rider has eight career 450SX victories.

“We had such a good preparation this year,” Tomac told Fox Sports. “It’s cool to have it rolling.”

Tomac has had some slow starts this season, such as last week’s race in Atlanta, when he chased Dungey from ninth. This week, Dungey was the chaser.

Tomac started fast, trailing Blake Baggett, of KTM team in second. Tomac soared through the rhythm section, catching Baggett at the turn for first place.

He stayed there.

Dungey, in the meantime, worked way up through the field to finish second, after overtaking Broc Tickle at the end.

“My goal was to get the start and go out there and do it,” Tomac said after the race.

“The track was gnarly,” he said. “It really broke down, so it was important to be consistent and ride smart. The long start let the Kawasaki open up and put us in a good position out of the gate, which was key.”

“We have eight rounds left with a lot of good tracks ahead,” Tomac said. “I’ll just keep hammering.”

Dungey leads the standings, 24 points ahead of Tomac.

Behind Tickle, Chad Reed placed fourth. Baggett finished fifth after dropping his bike mid-race.

“The track was gnarly,” said Tomac. “It really broke down, so it was important to be consistent and ride smart.”
