Ladies, lets all meet at the Cortez Elks Lodge for the Cortez Cultural Center’s Second Annual Ladies Night Out at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 2! Spend the evening browsing through vendors with products just for us girls! Have a drink; enjoy the fashion show and an evening out. Tickets are only $5 for this fun-filled evening.

Stop by the Cultural Center Gallery during April to view the work of Mancos artist Dian Law. Her current series, “Demons and Deities,” builds on a past show, “A Mask Tells More Than a Face.” Dian feels that humans everywhere on our small planet use symbology to represent thoughts or feelings for which words lack the emotional and universal ability to communicate the profound. She has been a member of the Mancos community since 2005 and is a member of the Artisans of Mancos Co-op. For the past five years, she has written a bimonthly “Art Beat” column for The Mancos Times. An artists reception will be held at the Cultural Center at 5 p.m. Friday, April 1. Take time to come and meet Dian and view her unique art.

The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeological Society is pleased to present Marcie Ryan to discuss local geology in a talk entitled “Between a Rock and a Hard Place: Telluride’s Regional Geology” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at the Cultural Center. Ryan will focus on Telluride’s awesome scenery as a function of past and present geologic processes.

As I am moving on to a new adventure, this will be my last column. I have immensely enjoyed my time at the Cultural Center and all of the wonderful volunteers. The volunteers are truly the heart of the center; the doors would not be open without them. I will leave you with this quote, “People may not remember exactly what you did or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”

I hope I had a hand in making you feel welcome and appreciated at the Cortez Cultural Center.
