Blondie would have some stories to tell, could she talk. This young adult female retriever cross was found lying (uninjured) by the side of Colorado Highway 491 near Shiprock, N.M., by a driver who saw her there on his daily drive. The driver wondered about her as he drove by there each day. One day, she was gone, and he vowed that if he saw her again, he would not leave her there. The next day, she appeared in the same location, and the Good Samaritan pulled over and picked her up. She is a beautiful blonde, with a silky cream-colored coat tipped with buff/golden markings. She is very shy, but is also sweet and gentle; she will bloom once she finds a friend to offer her some love and care, and give her a forever home. She will need a fenced yard, and some obedience training will help her gain confidence. No one knows why she was lying by the highway day after day, but surely her future has better things in store. Please help bring a happy end to Blondie’s mysterious story. She and other potential companions are available at the Cortez Animal Shelter, 2791 E. Main St. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and open every other Friday. The shelter will be closed this Friday, but on Saturday, July 23, there will be a special adopt-a-thon from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Walmart parking lot, 1835 E. Main St., in conjunction with the United Blood Services blood drive. This week, the shelter needs Iams puppy chow, generic baby shampoo (the human type), and dog biscuits and treats. For more information, call the shelter at 565-4910. To view more animals, visit www.petfinder.com (enter 81321 zip code) or http://www.cityofcortez.com/government/animal_shelter
