Ÿ Lyle J. Begay, 27, of Kayenta, Ariz., pleaded guilty to one count of driving while ability impaired. This is the defendant’s second DWI conviction. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail beginning on July 22, 2011, and also was sentenced to 365 days in jail with suspended disposition, and 24 months supervised probation, to report on this date. Probation will be transferred through interstate compact to Arizona. He was ordered to pay $2,096.55 in fines and costs, and must perform 48 hours of community service by June 19, 2012. He must attend victim impact panel if available in his area, Level II education and 68 hours of therapy – Track C, and must submit to random tests for drugs and alcohol. The defendant must engage in treatment within 15 days of sentencing or release from jail. All standard conditions of probation apply, including no alcohol or illegal drug use. Suspended imposition of 365 days in jail is dependent on defendant following all terms of probation.

Ÿ Sidney E. Knuckles, 38, of Cortez, pleaded no contest to one count of driving while ability impaired. This is the defendant’s second DWI conviction. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail beginning on December 1, 2011, and also was sentenced to 365 days in jail with suspended disposition, and 24 months supervised private probation, to report on this date. He was ordered to pay $1,096.60 in fines and costs, and must perform 60 hours of community service by June 19, 2012. He must attend victim impact panel, Attitudinal Dynamics of Driving, Level II education and 86 hours of therapy, Track D – unless treatment provider finds Track C or other more appropriate – and must submit to random tests for drugs and alcohol if required by treatment provider. The defendant must engage in treatment within 15 days of sentencing or release from jail. All standard conditions of probation apply, including no alcohol or illegal drug use. Suspended imposition of 365 days in jail is dependent on defendant following all terms of probation, and 10 days jail is a condition of probation. It is stipulated that he maintain a blood alcohol level of less than .107.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 20

Ÿ Virgil J. Espinoza, 19, of Mancos, pleaded guilty to one count of careless driving resulting in bodily injury, and one count of underage possession of alcohol. He received two deferred sentences of 12 months unsupervised probation, and was ordered to pay $145.50 in fines and costs. He was ordered to perform 24 hours of community service by July 1, 2012, and must undergo an alcohol evaluation and follow all recommendations of same. He must obtain proof of insurance and proof of having a drivers’ license to the court. Additionally, he must violate no laws, traffic or criminal, and must keep his address current with the court.

Ÿ Jessica Leavell, 18, of Cortez, pleaded guilty to one count of third degree criminal trespass. She received a misdemeanor fine of $500 – fine suspended as long as other conditions are met. She was ordered to pay $28.50 in fines and costs, and her case will be reviewed in March of 2012.

Ÿ John R. Jones Jr., 20, of Fort Thomas, Ky., pleaded guilty to one count of underage possession/consumption of alcohol and received a deferred sentence of 12 months unsupervised probation, and a deferred fine in the amount of $250. He was ordered to pay $53.50 in fines and costs and must undergo an alcohol evaluation and follow all recommendations of same. He was ordered to perform 24 hours of community service, to be completed where he lives. Additionally, he must violate no laws, traffic or criminal, and must keep his address current with the court.
