Tonka, a boy with an unforgettable smile, is an 4-year-old Pekingese mix with very appealing underbite. This small fellow had an unhappy start to his life at a puppy mill. He most definitely wants to be a lap dog, but is very polite about it. Tonka is super sweet, and very quiet; he is also great with other dogs. He has a silky, black-with-white, medium-length coat, and is short-legged with an upturned nose and big, brown eyes. This irresistible little guy and other potential companions are available at the Cortez Animal Shelter, 2791 E. Main St. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and open every other Friday. This week, the shelter desperately needs Iams puppy chow. They also need Pedigree or Purina adult dog food (for small breeds), Iams kitten food — both wet and/or dry, original Pine-Sol solution (pine-scented), bleach, and paper towels. For more information, call the shelter at 565-4910. To view more animals, visit www.petfinder.com (enter 81321 zip code) or http://www.cityofcortez.com/government/animal_shelter
