Dear Editor:

I enjoyed reading The Arts section of July 28 that featured articles on two fine used book stores in Cortez, -”Books” and “Punchak’s Paperbacks,” both by Dale Shrull.

I recommend to anyone that has not had the opportunity to visit these quaint, interesting shops — take a moment, drop by, have a quiet, relaxing, wondrous, different and enjoyable time not quite like anywhere else in our area.

If you are a reader, you’ll find yourself frequenting these locations. If you’re not, but know someone who is, these are great local stores to remember to pop in on when needing a gift for a reader.

These book retailers would also be great stores to introduce someone to that has yet to take the journey of finding a book of interest and then experiencing the pleasure of reading it.

Also, I enjoyed Joanie Howland’s article,“Library Staff Recommend Summer Reads.”

I frequent the library a couple times a month, checking out a bagful of books each time. I always look over the “staff recommend reading section,” checking out a book or two from that area when books are available there. I’d like to see a monthly feature in the Arts section of the Journal on “library staff favorite reads.” I consider library staff “the professionals and in the know” when it comes to great reading material.

I’m very proud of our splendid, well-run library, with its fine services and helpful staff. It’s one of the places in Cortez I look forward to frequenting every couple of weeks and highly recommend it to newcomers in the Four Corners area.

Thanks for the informative and interesting articles on books and reading.
