Five sentenced in Cortez on alcohol offenses

Judge JenniLynn Lawrence sentenced five people in Montezuma County Court this week for alcohol-related driving charges.

On Tuesday, Lewis Tallbrother was sentenced to 10 days in jail and two years probation for a second DUI offense. Lawrence gave him credit for three days served in jail. He will also have to pay a $300 fine and complete 60 hours of public service.

Sonya Cuthair also was sentenced to 10 days in jail and two years probation, with credit for six days already served, in connection with a second DUI offense. She also will have to complete 60 hours of public service and pay a $300 fine.

Jarrod Jewell was granted a deferred sentencing judgment in connection with a first DUI offense. He will be required to complete a 20-day home monitoring sentence and one year of probation.

Latisha John also was granted a deferred judgment in connection with a first DUI offense and a child abuse offense. She will be required to serve one year of probation and complete 48 hours of public service, as well as enroll in a parenting class.

Alexander Wilson was sentenced to 10 days in jail in connection with a first DUI offense. Lawrence granted a deferred sentencing judgment for Wilson. He also will have to complete a year of probation and 24 hours of public service.

On Wednesday, Kenneth Braun was sentenced to 18 months probation and ordered to comply with probation’s recommendations for domestic violence treatment after pleading guilty to a charge of third-degree assault as an act of domestic violence.
