The Dove Creek Lady Bulldogs opened their volleyball season with two losses on Tuesday and Wednesday to the state of Utah.
Dove Creek (0-2, 1A San Juan Basin League) played the 2A varsity Grand County (Moab) Lady Red Devils at home and lost 3-0, (20-25, 17-25, 17-25).
The next day, the Lady Bulldogs bused to Blanding to take on the 2A San Juan Lady Broncos junior varsity squad. It was a hard fought match, but Dove Creek was bested, 3-1 (22-25, 13-25, 27-25, 23-25).
Sophomore outside hitter Shelbie Knuckles led the way with a double-double of 11 kills and 12 digs against San Juan. Sophomore middle hitter Madison Young recorded eight digs and 10 solo blocks. Senior setter Jessica Heaton had 11 assists.
Dove Creek will begin SJBL play at 2A Ignacio (0-1) on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
