Dear Editor:
I was pleased to read, in the Sept. 10 Journal, Rep. Tiptons comment on President Obamas speech. I am usually a critic of Rep. Tipton, but this time I must applaud him for sounding like he is cautiously optimistic on the presidents plans to create more jobs. He did not give the usual ideological rhetoric that both the right and left use but sounded like he was ready to work for our common good.
If we are to survive as a country we need to stop the hate and fear that has been going around for far too long. We dont have to like each other, but we need to learn to respect each other. We dont have to agree with each other, but we can respectfully agree to disagree, then get to work to solve our problems, together. We need to debate our differences without using lies and fear to prove our point. Before you write a letter to the editor, check your facts and not on Rushs or MSNBCs website.
Let us learn to compromise with each other. Our president has done his share of compromising, to the detriment of our environment and wildlands. That has cost him support among his strongest supporters. Those who were set in stone on not raising the debt ceiling, their decision was costly to our country. If we dont learn to compromise, respect and work with each other, we will not have to worry about terrorists destroying our country; we will do it ourselves from within.
We need to learn not to put education and teachers last. We need to invest in our future. What we dont pay for now, our children will pay for later.
Let us learn to live and work together.
